Liberal Nationals plan to back small businesses and sole traders

An O’Brien Liberal Nationals Government will ensure Victoria is once again the small businesses capital of the nation, with a $400 million boost to support Victoria’s small businesses and sole traders.

As part of the Liberal Nationals Local Business Action Plan, up to $1,500 in rebates will be available for eligible small businesses to claim against specified state and local government fees and charges.

Hundreds of thousands of small businesses will benefit under the Liberal Nationals’ plan to back local business, local jobs and local success through the Liberal Nationals Local Business Action Plan, which includes reforms to payroll tax.

Examples of fees and charges covered include food authority licences, liquor licences, trade licences, event fees, outdoor seating fees and council rates.

The one-off $1,500 rebate will be available over 12 months to small businesses and sole traders that are below the 2022-23 threshold for payroll tax and have at least $75,000 in annual turnover.

Comments attributable to the Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Small Business, Michael O’Brien:

“Local business is the backbone of our economy and the Liberal Nationals’ policy is backing jobs through the Local Business Action Plan.

“Small businesses across Victoria have been telling us that government fees and charges are holding them back.

“By rebating up to $1,500 in state and local government fees and charges, we will give small and micro business the opportunity to focus on growing and creating more local jobs.

“Our $1,500 fee rebate and payroll tax cuts mean that every single small business in Victoria will be better off with the Liberal Nationals.

“Under an O’Brien Liberal Nationals government, Victoria’s COVID economic recovery will be small business-led, and our Local Business Action Plan will help get Victoria back on top by backing local business, local jobs and local success.”
