During this morning’s hearing of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee, Attorney-General Jill Hennessy and DJCS Secretary, Rebecca Falkingham confirmed that the Solicitor-General had provided advice to Health Minister Jenny Mikakos and her Department about the Andrews Labor Government’s proposed 12 month State of Emergency extension.
The changes that Daniel Andrews and Jenny Mikakos are seeking to ram through Parliament next week are unprecedented, extraordinarily overreaching and anti-democratic.
For the Parliament to properly consider whether to give such enormous power to the Premier, Health Minister and the Chief Health Officer, it is essential that the legal advice upon which this legislation is based is urgently released to the community.
During this period of crisis, it’s time for Daniel Andrews and Jenny Mikakos to be open and transparent with the Victorian community.
