In the third incident in two weeks, there has been another assault at Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre. Yesterday, a teacher was assaulted by two teenage inmates for trying to stop young people listening to music in class.
Despite damning reports of the state of the youth justice system under the Andrews Labor Government, including damage being caused to staff wellbeing and physical safety, frontline youth justice workers continue to be ignored.
Now we see why assaults on staff at youth justice facilities are out of control. Daniel Andrews and his Ministers are too busy concentrating on themselves rather than the frontline staff working to clean up Labor’s mess.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Youth Justice, Brad Battin:
“As Daniel Andrews and his Ministers grapple with a corruption scandal and fight over who gets the Ministerial salary and car, teachers and staff at Malmsbury and Parkville continue to be the victims in a system out of control.
“Youth justice workers are fronting up at Malmsbury and Parkville every day, putting themselves in harm’s way in a broken system, and wonder if they will walk out at the end of their shift or be wheeled out in an ambulance.
“When will Daniel Andrews put the staff and teachers at Malmsbury and Parkville first and visit the centre to hear the risks staff face daily?”
