It is wrong that this year’s ANZAC Day dawn service will be limited to 1400, but just hours later and less than two kilometres away, 75,000 will gather at the MCG.
Many country marches have also been cancelled due to restrictions being placed on them and the need to oversee these requirements.
Meanwhile in Queensland, which has had the most recent Coronavirus community transmission cases, dawn services and marches will proceed without restriction.
Our veteran community is right to be outraged by the Andrews Labor Government’s iron-fisted restrictions that will prevent many Victorians from gathering on ANZAC Day in Melbourne.
On top of only allowing 1400 at the dawn service, just 5,000 are allowed to participate in the annual march with many being turned away.
ANZAC Day is deeply personal for so many Victorians.
Victoria has now recorded 50 days without community transmission of COVID-19.
All Victorians must have the opportunity to safely come together to honour the men and women who have given their lives in service of our nation and those who continue to serve today.
The Andrews Labor Government must immediately lift crowd limits to bring numbers in line with the relaxed rules that have been afforded all other sectors, except Victorian veterans.
