LETTER TO THE EDITOR - SOLAR POWER FEED-IN TARIFFS
The Baillieu Government believes in supporting fair solar power feed-in tariffs that keep the pressure off power bills.
Importantly, there will be no retrospective change to any existing feed-in tariffs that customers have signed up to.
Unfortunately, the solar subsidies left behind by the Brumby Labor Government unfairly increase power bills for the majority of people.
Under Labor’s system, pensioners and families who are struggling to pay their power bills, and who cannot afford solar panels, subsidise those with solar systems.
With the price of solar panels dropping by around 50 per cent in the last few years, Labor’s subsidies were too generous and unfair to households who pay the subsidies through higher electricity bills.
That is why we asked the independent Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission to report on current schemes and provide recommendations for the future.
Labor’s support for overly generous feed-in tariffs, subsidised by struggling households, shows it is out of touch with cost of living pressures.
