Premier Daniel Andrews has failed to provide adequate support to drought-affected farmers and communities in Euroa.
Drought conditions are forcing farmers to spend thousands of dollars per week to feed their stock, and yet Daniel Andrews stands idly by, not providing the support farming communities desperately need.
Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien today met with farmers in the Mitchell Shire who are being severely impacted the drought.
Despite repeated calls for action, Daniel Andrews has done nothing meaningful to help farmers who are struggling through the drought.
Shire rate relief is a straight-forward way that the state government could assist local farmers, but Daniel Andrews and Labor have so far failed to deliver this support.
Not only has Shire rate relief not been announced but farmers in Mitchell, Murrindindi and Mansfield shires have also been excluded from accessing drought support by the state government.
The rain last week was a huge relief, but farmers are still struggling to feed their livestock.
Despite Labor’s Agriculture Minister, Jaclyn Symes, living in the Mitchell Shire, farmers who have requested to meet with her to explain the impact of the drought, have had their requests ignored.
Daniel Andrews must deliver shire rate relief in the upcoming state budget to support our farmers and rural communities struggling through the impact of drought.
Comments attributable to the Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien:
“Farmers across Euroa are struggling through a severe drought and yet again Daniel Andrews has refused to even visit the region to understand how bad the conditions really are.”
“Daniel Andrews needs to get out of the city and visit farmers with an announcement on council rate relief.”
Comments attributable to Member for Euroa, Steph Ryan:
“Farmers are struggling through these tough conditions, and yet Daniel Andrews has failed to announce shire rate relief that would help support this tough time.”
“Drought-affected farmers have so far been ignored by Daniel Andrews so the upcoming state budget must contain genuine, effective financial relief.”
