Victoria’s unemployment worse than national average (edition 15)

Victoria’s jobs problems continue with latest ABS jobs figures showing Victoria’s unemployment rate exceeding the national average for the 15th consecutive month.

Victoria’s unemployment rate of 5.5 per cent remains above the national average of 5.4 per cent.

New South Wales, our northern neighbour and economic competitor, has the lowest unemployment rate of any state at 4.6 per cent.

The Andrews government has hit businesses and individuals with 12 new or increased taxes since coming to government, the latest being a ‘city access tax’ that targets motorists on their way to work.

It’s no wonder that NSW maintains strong employment when Victorians face a new tax just for trying to get to work.

Comments attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Michael O’Brien:

“Daniel Andrews’ 12 new taxes and high energy prices are not what Victorians expected for Christmas from their Premier.”

“Victoria is now the highest taxing state in Australia thanks to Daniel Andrews; this is not how to encourage businesses to employ more workers.”

“With NSW having an unemployment rate massively lower than Victoria’s, it is clear that Labor’s economic policies are failing.”
