· Construction for the state-of-the-art aged-care facility to begin
· Development will generate approximately 180 jobs and local investment
· Coalition Government supporting older Victorians
Member for Malvern Michael O’Brien today turned the first sod on a $36.7 million aged-care facility in Malvern East providing accommodation and care for older Victorians.
“Construction of the new, purpose built 148-bed facility will be a welcome addition to aged-care services in Malvern East, benefiting not only older Victorians requiring ongoing care, but also providing peace of mind for their families and loved ones,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Residents will be moving into the completed facility in late 2016 and will able to get the care and assistance they need close to home, staying within reach of family so they can continue to play an important role in each other’s life.
“The $36.7 million aged-care development provides an opportunity for residents to remain active members of the community and recognises that older Victorians have a lot to offer, provided they are given the support and help needed to participate fully.
“Victoria’s population is both growing and ageing and we must ensure we have the right services and supports in place to respond to those needs,” Mr O’Brien said.
The four storey state-of-the-art facility will include a dementia specific-wing, premium apartments, underground car parking, a cafe, cinema, hairdressing salon, eZone and landscaped gardens for residents and their visiting families to enjoy.
“Creating approximately 180 jobs, both in the construction phase and also additional positions for care staff, this new facility is dedicated to providing ongoing care and helping some of the more vulnerable members of the community live in a safe environment,” Mr O’Brien said.
